We started development in October 2021. The goal was to build a laboratory CPC that was the size of an analytical HPLC, so that we could easily convert a commonly used HPLC into a CPC.
I wanted to build a CPC column that could be easily interchanged with the HPLC column, so that only „column interchange” was needed to turn HPLC into CPC.
First, a „plank model” was built, apparently named V1. This was then folded, cut and trimmed until the first desktop device, the V2, was created.
The V2 weighed 77kg (170lbs), so it couldn’t really be considered a desktop machine. We put it on the table anyway, but first we made sure the table would take the strain.
Until finally the V5 was built, which became a truly „just replace the column” model. The V5 weighs 22kg (49lbs), which is the weight of an HPLC module, and the size has been reduced a lot.
